As a company that prides itself on sourcing the finest ingredients for underwear (and has spent years in the researching phase), we’ve learned something pretty huge: it doesn’t matter what the front of the packaging says; it’s in the details where you’ll find what you need to know with regards to whether or not the underwear will seriously keep you dry. But first…

Why moisture-wicking?

Before we get into the kinds of fabrics that are your best bet, let’s talk about the concept overall. For women on the go—hopping from meeting to meeting, Orangetheory to 5ks, chasing around the kids or, let’s be honest, simply walking down one avenue to the next in the summer heat—staying dry is critical for a number of reasons.

Comfort is an obvious one, smell is another. But did you know excessive sweat can actually lead to yeast infections? In this SELF article, Christine Greves, M.D., a board-certified ob/gyn at the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies, says, “Wearing sweaty gym clothes or a wet bathing suit for too long can also contribute to yeast infections. Yeast loves warm, moist environments, and your workout gear or a wet bathing suit can trap heat and sweat, allowing yeast to flourish.” We’d say that’s a pretty good reason to always stay as dry as possible down there, and that’s what moisture-wicking undies so: wick away the moisture to the surface, then quickly dry the fabric.

Look for Silk Panties:

There’s a reason our Soft Silk underwear line is made the way it is: silk is the ultimate moisture-wicking fabric. But don’t take it from us. The Nest says: “Silk fibers are slightly absorbent but they evaporate moisture faster than traditional garments. Silk is most useful for cool-weather activities, and the luxurious hand of the fabric makes it ideal as a next-to-skin layer. Silk resists some odor naturally but works best with frequent cleaning.” Here is a detailed guide on why silk panties are the healthiest option for underwear.

Or, Go With Cotton

No matter how convinced we are that silk is the way to go for your sweatiest days, we totally get that some people prefer a touch of cotton—at least for your most delicate of parts. For those ladies, our Happy Seams seamless underwear comes with a cotton-lined gusset, a natural moisture-wicker you can still count on to stay dry. And not only that, but these babies are seamless too—fabulous for pantsuits, yoga pants, and thin dresses.
